Carved geometric bowl with teal interior
Jerome Ackerman, studio ceramics, marked ACKERMAN
Dimensions: 9 x 4in
A rounded bowl with a dark, almost black exterior cut by a web of tan incised lines. The rim is a rust-brown glaze that pools and breaks. Inside, a deep teal-to-aqua glaze. Thrown, carved, and reduction-fired. Strong graphic presence from every angle.
Jerome Ackerman (1920–2019) was a California modernist potter and designer. Trained at Wayne State and at Alfred University (MFA, 1952), he and his wife Evelyn moved to Los Angeles and founded Jenev Design Studio, later ERA Industries. Their ceramics, mosaics, tapestries, and woodcarvings helped define postwar West Coast modernism. After years running the business, Jerry returned to the wheel in the late 1980s, making reduction-fired stoneware. These later studio pieces are signed ACKERMAN on the foot.
